biscoGhost - Visual Information Navigation

This module presents the user with a view of the data held in biscoPro about the project and allows the user to navigate through this either by a traditional tree or by using the 3D model.

Any building project requires the storage of an enormous amount of information and the problem with this is finding the bit you need when you need it.  Our solution is to use a replica of the original CAD model as a way of visually navigating this data as this provides a user friendly interface that anyone can understand.

We extract the data from the designers 3D CAD model we not only extract the schedule of elements and their details, but also the 3D geometry.  This allows us to rebuild the 3D model within our own structure and view it within our own viewer.  From this point onwards we maintain a linkage between any information that we create and the element it was based on.  It is this linkage that allows the user to explore the information held in biscoPro about the element.
The biscoGhost viewer has four sections:

Primary Navigator - This is a listing of all of the instances of the building elements contained within the biscoPro data structure for the project grouped by element type.  The user can select one or more of these and highlight or isolate them in the model and navigate

Ghost Model - The 3D view of the building model.  The geometry of the model comes from the original CAD design but is stored in our own XML format data structure and viewed in our OpenGL viewer.  The user can select an element or elements and then view the information related to it.

Secondary Navigator - This allows the user to choose what type of information they would like to view for the selected element or elements.  The types of information could contain:
Element Details - raw properties extracted from the original CAD model, project defaults, or manual inputs.
Estimate - quantity schedule
Job Costs - budget and actual costs
Project Plan - a GANTT view showing where the element fits into the time plan
Specification - this could be the design specifications, installation instructions, or maintenance details
Inspections - the inspections and how to perform them

Details Grid - This displays the result of the selected elements and chosen information type.
